A quick update

I have pictures I just have not uploaded them...I know I am a horrible horrible blogger. But with the holidays and work I have been so exhausted. I have also been organizing and packing everything up a little at a time to make the move as painless as possible. So far I have 9 totes of stuff packed up. Jason and I prefer the tots to boxes as they can handle more weight and are reusable for storage (and future moving) purposes. Granted we do not plan on moving again for a long long time...but we still had some totes left over from our previous move 2 1/2 years ago.

I just wanted to give you guys a little update and if Jason wants to complain about the pictures...i would advise him to wait until tomorrow or do them himself. After all....procrastinators unite...Tomorrow.

Anyway here is where we are at in the building process. The drywall has been hung, taped and muded. Ceiling has been completed and most of the ext siding is done. I am happy to say that it finally looks like we are ahead of the house across the street who signed way after us, but has been leading us through this whole process. We have also received a delivery of goodies that are sitting in our garage. From the looks of things it includes interior doors, sinks and cabinets. We had a bit of a scare with the siding color as it has been really dark out lately and the color looks almost brown. The siding we have is Spanish olive...not supposed to look brown. But I think once the stone is one and the electric is hooked up and we have a little bit of lighting it will look like the right color.

In other news...we received a very very generous Christmas gift from Jason's family (in the form of cash) and we also received some very generous gift my dad, in the form of a collectors knife for jason, a braclet for me and Magic Mike on blueray that I was waiting to buy until after we bout the house (on a side note, I am so proud that he was able to hold his head high and ask the store associate at best buy where in the store he could locate the movie. When the store associate looked at him funny and my dad said "its for my daughter" he continued to keep his head held high as the store associate stared at him like he was crazy for buying his daughter a film about hot male strippers). My dad also paid for half of our refrigerator. Yes folks we have amazing family! We met my dad today to pick it out. We purchased a Samsung and it was only around $1400 before shipping, warranty and taxes. It was one sale and we also got 5% off as dad put it on his credit card (0% interest for 2 years). So between Jason's parents generous cash gift and my dad we were able to purchase our refrigerator. Jason also received pretty nice  bonus from work so we were able to order the Cat Genie (cat toilet), as well as buy some new cook ware for our future kitchen. I will post pictures tomorrow. I am getting really excited. The only thing we have left to buy that is a priority is blinds and ceiling fans! its a good feeling to have all of your closing costs and most of the things you placed as priories purchased. Thank god for families! Can't wait to get the go ahead on our credit so we can start furniture shopping!

Jason and I also purchased a late Christmas early birthday present for himself today. He purchased his first gun. He has shot them before but never owned one and has been begging me for one and I was completely against it. However, I feel that it is unfair of me to tell him he can't have a gun when it is one of his hobbies. He constantly has to borrow his brothers gun any time he wants to go shooting. I also see the little sad puppy eyes every time his brother purchases (or even talks about purchasing) a new gun. I have hobbies and he never tells me that I can't buy something to satisfy those hobbies. Am I afraid of guns...Yes. That being said the more I am around them, the more I will become familiar with them and the more comfortable I will feel. Growing up my dad always had guns but I did not know about them until I was older. He kept them in a gun safe and hid them. He only showed them to me after I had passed the age of adolescence in which he felt he could trust me. Now both my dad and my husband think it is a good idea for me to take lessons and learn. I am not against this one hundred percent. I am just really nervous around them and I feel I can not safely handle a gun until I get over that fear. That being said I think that people can responsibly own guns and as long as Jason takes the safety precautions I desire, I feel that this new hobbie and I will get along just fine. Who knows...maybe one day I will own more guns than Jason.

On a side note this blizard thing has kind of sucked. Travel has been terrible and cold....

It's a date!

So Jason and I received a call yesterday. Our official final walk through is January 29th at 9am and our closing is scheduled for 10am on February 1st. So we were pushed back an entire week (oh the sadness), but at least we have our for sure concrete dates! We also locked in our rate this week. We went to the house last night and saw the small changes we requested were made. We had hoped to go back tonight to see if the insulation was started but the weather was not in our favor. Maybe we will get a surprise drywall installation before the next time we can get out there to see it? PM said that within 2 weeks of drywall (not sure if it is from starting drywall or after drywall...which we were told would take a week), we will have cabinets and floors. So excited and can't wait to see all the fun stuff that will be installed! No pictures again... we just took so many that I don't feel like sorting through them. I know that is bad but I am so busy at work and enjoying my break from school I just don't feel like going through pictures. I promise pictures soon :)

Do you ever wish...

...That people would realize there is a time to be serious and a time to play? Rant warning... Well let me back up a little bit and we will get to that in a second. First of all we finally (and I say that in a "thank you God" voice) got a response to our predrywall meeting question. So to recap...We were told at our preconstruction meeting the predrywall meeting would be 5 weeks from the day they started digging...Which happened to be last Wednesday (December the 12th). Well the week before that we had a mini walk through with our PM since we had not been clued in to the building process (due to lack of communication on our PM's part). He told us on that day (December the 7th) that our predrywall meeting would be December 13th or 14th (the following Thursday or Friday). He casually said "I will be in touch and we will set up a time". Jason and I excepted that answer and waited...and waited some more. Wednesday came we had not heard from him so Jason emailed. It is not easy for us to take off work at a whim and we are supposed to have at least 24 hours notice to our supervisors. When we did not hear back from him at all on that Wednesday or Thursday...Friday started to look glum as well. Finally Friday morning my husband texted him and our PM imminently responded that we should have our predrwyall meeting Monday December the 17th as there would be more to see. DING DING DING! I guess we know the quickest way to get a hold of him (via text). Jason and I were disappointed that we would have to wait longer but we agreed and were fine with this plan.

So now is the time I interject. Jason and I are very flexible very understanding people. That being said I have this pit of the stomach feeling that we are being taken advantage of. The communication from our PM sucks (which I feel guilty about complaining about later as when he responds we feel like it is Christmas morning). This bad feeling was made official at our Predrywall meeting on Monday. Everything was going very well. I have two pieces of news I will share in a minute. But then we got to the end when it was time to discuss questions, timelines and most importantly the settlement date (so we could lock our rate). Seeing as how there was no insulation, I did not expect drywall to start right away. So I asked when do you expect to start drywall. My answer was that they would have a building inspector on Tuesday or Wednesday. Once that was approved an insulation inspector and an energy star certified inspector would come on Wednesday or Thursday and they expect to start drywall on Thursday or Friday. Drywall will take a week and then floors and cabinets would be installed. I was fairly satisfied with this answer and this led me to my next thought...what about the exterior timeline. So I asked when they would start the exterior siding and stone. This is where I got upset. I was given the answer "When we get to it". No joke no lie, those are the exact words used. We felt in the past were able to have a joking almost friendship with our PM but I feel that has actually hurt us. See title. I feel that our PM is so much of a jokester...that it is hard to tell when he is being serious and when he is joking. There is a time and a place for it and I feel that that moment and that time..was not it. He must have registered surprise on my face because he supplemented with more info saying its not a big deal because each one takes two days which is four days tops. But the damage was already done. That feeling in my stomach quickly turned to cement and I am now sure we are being blown off.

As a new home buyer and first time homeowner...I have no clue how fast/slow processes should be. The estimated dates is something to give me to look forward to and gives me a little bit of an appreciation for the time for each step that goes into the building process. I feel that I deserve to know when the stone/siding is expected to be delivered. So after that I was quick to give my husband the "stop chit chatting I am ready to get out of here so I can bitch about it look" when my husband remembered to ask about the closing date. Which we were told we would get the confirmation on the day of the predrywall meeting. Well.. This is what we were told "I will send you an email this afternoon or tomorrow morning giving you the exact final walk through and settlement dates".  At that point I was to pissed to argue. So while we were not happy with that answer we took it with a grain of salt. So last night passed without an email and so did this morning. Needless to say it ended with another text from my husband (may I point out we initiated contact once again?) asking for the date. The disappointing but not upsetting news that our closing date is going to be February 1st when it was original estimated to be January 25th.

So the other news I talked about in the middle of the rant? Well our central vac outlets were placed right under our flat panel set ups. So in layman's terms...They would be behind our entertainment center in  both the living room and basement. Does not make since to add cable outlets and electrical outlets in the middle of the wall for a television center and then put the outlets right in the way so you can not put a television stand. Like always our PM was in agreement that this needed to be fixed. Also my harry potter closet has been enlarged (yay!) and it is much bigger. The other good exciting news is that the wrong shingles were delivered and installed by the roofing company. So we got free dimensional shingles which apparently cost a lot of money and last longer. Jason and I were under the impression we were supposed to get these in the first place, but apparently not. Our house and the one across the street are different from the rest of the neighborhood.

Well my rant is over. Jason is mad Because I have yet to post any pictures Lately. Yes I am out of school but have enjoying my relaxation. I promise I will get around to it...eventually.

As always...Happy Building!

So Much little time to blog about it!

So with finals this week and last week Jason and I have been completley booked. So I finished up my finals on Tuesday (7 tests and three papers in all ugh...) and last night I decided to do some catching up on laundry and organizing to get ready for the big move. Sorry no pictures today...I promise I will get them to you this weekened. But here is what has happend in our world. So I think we left off with a roof. Since that the porch has been poored and the garage door installed. There have been a few minor mistakes (i.e. dryer vent in the wrong spot, a few broken windows ect.) but PM knew about them and we did not even have to open our mouths before he pointed it out. One incendent that I found really funny was when they were lifting the bathtubs into the house before they put the roof on, one of the contractors slamed one into the dumpster on our lot and broke it. Needless to say we got a new one. Last Friday we walked through the house with our PM for the first time. I was in serious shock! Our firplace has been delivered and is partially installed (as in its in the hole and hooked up to something lol). Last Saturday we had a walk through with our Guardian rep and he marked out where everything is going (indoor/outdoor speakers, surround sound speakers, volume control, cable outlets ect.), This was also a fun experience. On Sunday we went to Columbus to visit with my dad and we drove by to get a few pics for him before we left. We were surprised that when we got there the roofers were putting on the shingles! Once again shocked that they were working on a Sunday! And of course Jason and I would never dare dream of going in the house say around 10:00pm on a Tuesday night with a flashlight...But if we did...we would have seen that they put up the last wall in the basement so we are 100% frammed, most of the electrical and plumbing was installed, and bathtubs where in the right place. I drove by afterwork and it looks like they were working on more plumbing and electrical. Oh and when I saw how little our under the stair closet was...I asked if he could knock down that wall and move it back so I could have more space...He agreed which is awesome! I am so excited to have a big harry potter closet!

One thing I have been kind of frustrated about during this WHOLE process is the lack of communication. I am trying to be understanding becuase I UNDERSTAND that my PM has like 10 houses he is building right now all in different phases. I am a little heartbroken to say that I think he has only reached out to us once since this process begain (On November 7th which is five weeks ago). All the other communication with him has been initiated on our end. At our pre-con meeting...he told us that our predrywall meeting would be on December 12th. Now I understand things come up and get delayed but I expect to hear about the delay. When we walked through last Friday he told us that our predrywall meeting would be December 13th or 14th. Well today is the 13th and I have not heard I assume it will not be today. I know he told us to plan for one of those days but it is hard for us to tell our bosses "Oh hey I may have to take a 2 or 3 hour lunch sometime next week"....If I was my boss I would be thinking "you expect me to remember that? with all the stuff I have going on....Yeah right!". So it is a little frustrating to not have a solid time and date...But I guess once we are done we are done and we don't have to worry about it any more.

So hears to happy building and good grades on Finals! Hope everyone that is in school did well :)

I feel like I have done so much with my life already which is exciting...but I still have so much more to do.

2nd floor!!!

We drove by today just out of curiosity...did not expect to see anything new as it is Saturday. Boy where we surprised! They had our second floor mostly completed and the stairs put in. Between homework and spending time with family, I am once again exhausted. Enjoy the pictures. I will try to update later with captions :)
